The Technau lab works on an evolutionary basal phylum, the cnidarians, which are diploblastic, hence lack a mesoderm. As model organism the lab mainly uses the sea anemone Nematostella vectensis.  The EVONET projects will focus on the identification of target genes of three conserved "mesodermal" transcription factors (Brachyury, Twist and Mef2) in Nematostella vectensis by genome wide ChIP-seq or ChIP-on-chip approaches, combined with functional and expression studies.
